My Term 1 Goals

In Room 1 we have been doing our Goals.

My Term 1 goals are what I want and will try to do in Term 1.

We chose someone from the  Horouta waka for one of our Goals. I chose Hineakua because I want to be more organised like she was and prepared. Another goal was to improve my writing by using  appropriate similes to make my writing more descriptive.    

My Lenten Promises

This week is the start of Lent  and Room 1 have been learning about Lent
Lent is about giving,giving up something and praying more the thing that you give up you do till Easter.On shrove Tuesday (the day before lent starts)In Room 1 we made pancakes!everyone had to bring the things you need to make them.the reason why we made these pancakes is because back in Jesus time they would use up all of the expensive foods to make pancakes before the fasting season begins (lent). 

Dragonflies

In Room one we have been reading Explorer and learning about the dragonflies in the book

All about me

Kia ora  my name is Joan Im in year 6 at saint Mary's school
I live on a farm with my mum and my dad and I have No siblings. My favorite Colours are…Blue,Purple,silver and Gold.My favorite Animal is Horse Owl or panda.

At school I am good at Art and Netball. My favorite subjects are reading and Art.
My goals and Challenges for this year are to be able to Write faster on my Chromebook and to get better at spelling.

 Things I’m looking forward to this year are going to camp, winter netball and some Dance competitions that are coming up learning lots of new art techniques and reading lots more Amazing books.

Horouta waka

In Room 1 on Tuesday we had one of the people that work at the museum come out to
our school to talk about the Horouta waka. She asked use some questions and how the Horouta waka came to New Zealand. On the I found it hard t were people from a far away place called Hawaiki. The people on the Horouta waka were paoa,kiwa,Hinehākirirangi,and Hineakua  they came from Hawaiki. Hawaiki is were new zealand got its Kumura.
I found it easy to put the sand on the glue to make a waka
I found it challenging to explain about the Horouta waka.
Next time I would change my background colour.
